Can I join late?

Yes, simply call Santa Cruz Challenge headquarters to go over the details of the program and fill out the registration form online. The only drawback to joining late is that you do not qualify for the Grand Prizes.

Do I need to be in good physical shape?

Absolutely not. All of the classes are designed to get you in shape. You are pushed and encouraged based on your current level of fitness. The instructors give you a range of reps, so you can gauge where you are at, and do the appropriate amount for you. We want you to give your best effort on that particular day.

How do I prepare for the HEALTH test?

Bio Impedance Anaylysis (BIA) or Body Composition Test Preparation
On the day of your BIA assessment please ensure that you:

  • avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior
  • avoid exercise 12 hours prior
  • avoid caffeine for 4 hours prior
  • avoid eating for 4 hours prior
  • do not wear hosiery or moisturizer on day of testing as electrode pads are placed directly on skin
  • drink at least 1 glass of water 1 hour before testing

How much does the Santa Cruz Challenge cost?

The Santa Cruz Challenge costs $599 for the 12-weeks (unless you get in for early-bird registration), everything included as follows:

What are the DATES that I need to know about?

FREE Introduction and Overview : Saturday, January 14th, 2017 9-11 a.m.

Initial Testing day : Sunday, January 30th, 2017 starting at 8 a.m.

12 full weeks: Something EVERYDAY

Start With Yourself Talk: Saturday, January 29th 9-11 p.m.

Awards Ceremony: Sunday, April 23rd at 5 p.m.

Optimal Health and Fitness (OHF) is offering a special deal on classes for those who do not already have a fitness program or are looking for something new, exciting and challenging! Boot Camp is an exciting program that provides a dynamic total body workout designed to improve strength, agility, flexibility, and endurance. The program focuses on strengthening the core muscle groups while providing a full-body workout. By using tools such as resistance bands, body weight and gravity, stairs, hand weights, and natural props, we design a wide variety of fun and exciting workouts that are guaranteed to challenge your body and mind. Boot Camp is focused on environmental integration and is designed to promote the mind-body connection created during the outdoor workout experience. We believe that there is no greater workout setting than the natural environment and this class takes full advantage of all the beauty Santa Cruz County has to offer.

The Santa Cruz Challenge will benefit any and all people regardless of current fitness and health levels. Whether you are looking to reach the next level of fitness, looking for new ways to engage in physical activities, or simply wanting to begin a new exercise and nutrition program, this challenge is for you! Throughout the course of the challenge each participant will gain tools regarding important concepts such as relaxation/meditation, reducing household toxins, shopping local organic and seasonal, importance of proper hydration and sleep, stress management, nutritional detoxification, increased flexibility, and much more.

Do I need to take every class?

Gosh, NO! YOU literally design and pick what classes you will attend. Choose from unlimited outdoor fitness classes, unlimited fitness studio classes, health lectures, specialty classes throughout the week…. The initial health and fitness test is optional, but mandatory to be included in the Grand, First, Second and Third overall prizes.

What time are the classes?

The classes are at VARIED times of the day, sometimes 7 days a week. The unlimited outdoor fitness classes we call “santa cruz boot camp” will be: 6:15 a.m. monday through fridays 9:15 a.m. monday through fridays, sometimes on saturday when other classes are not offered 6:00 p.m monday through thursdays The other fitness classes are offered at such different times: almost every day — and sometimes starting as early as 6 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m. The health lectures are most sundays (not mothers day, easter nor passover) at 5 p.m. Other “events” are sporadic throughout the days of the week, like grocery and farmers market tours, pure pleasure, santa cruz running company, spokesman bike tours, etc.
